KETA taxi boss gunned down in front of his house

Two unknown African males got out of a Mercedes Benz to make sure they aimed to shoot him directly

Kempton Park Taxi Association (Keta) chairperson was followed and fatally shot at the gate of his residence in Clayville in Olifandsfontein on May 15.

Captain Mofana Masela on behalf of the Ekurhuleni North cluster said it is alleged Johnson Mdaka (63) was with his wife and son at the time of the shooting.

“While at his residence, his son went to open the gate and Mdaka drove his BMW into the yard. His son went to open the garage and gunshots rang as the taxi boss entered his yard towards the garage.

“Two unknown African males got out of a Mercedes Benz to make sure they aimed to shoot him directly. Mdaka was fatally shot and his wife was shot, she is recovering in hospital,” said Masela.

He added the SAPS is encouraging taxi associations to resolve their differences in a peaceful manner because fighting can never solve any dispute.

On the same day at noon in another shooting incident, another taxi owner was gunned down in Ivory Park.

“It is alleged he went to collect business cash for the day from drivers in Ivory park when the incident took place.

“The taxi owner is alleged staying in Pretoria and runs his taxi business in Tembisa. He was doing a routine collection when occupants in a Ford Ranger shot at him and fled the scene.

“It is not yet known if he was targeted separately or whether the incident is related to the one that occurred in Clayville. They both took place around the same time,” said Masela.
