Ex-soldier of Ebony Park wanted for alleged murder of wife

The suspect and his estranged wife were reportedly going through a divorce

Ivory Park SAPS is on the hunt for a 41-year-old former soldier who is alleged to have shot and killed his wife at their home in Ebony Park, on May 27.

It is alleged that the suspect shot and killed his estranged wife in front of their children at about 11 am, and kept them hostage until 6 pm that evening when his brother-in-law arrived to collect his child.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, the latter was told by the gun toting-suspect never to enter the yard.

“He fled the scene and called the police. The suspect and his estranged wife were reportedly going through a divorce, and it is suspected that the shooting may have something to do with the state of affairs in their marriage. He managed to flee the scene on foot and has not been seen since then. He is heavily armed, and he should not be confronted. Anyone who sees him should please call the police,” said Matimulane.

Matimulane added in the same breath the station commander of the Ivory Park SAPS, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, has condemned the murder of a 28-year-old man by some community members in Kaalfontein on May 27.

“The victim was accused of not paying for some items from an informal market in the area. A mob of about 40 people are reported to have come to his place of residence carrying his photograph. At about the same time he arrived and was, without warning, attacked. He was assaulted with everything and also pelted with stones until he succumbed to the injuries inflicted,” added Matimulane.

“What happened to the victim was unwarranted and cruel. Any complainant in a criminal matter should know that whenever a suspect in a criminal offence is caught they must be handed to the police for further processing of the issue concerned. Taking the law into one’s own hands is unlawful, and is sure to result in consequences for those involved,” said Ngcobo.
