Ivory Park robber sentenced to 27 years behind bars

All of these crimes had taken place in Ivory Park, shortly before he was arrested in 2016

Ivory Park SAPS has noted and welcomed a lengthy jail sentence handed down by the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court on a 26-year old man for a spate of crimes which, among them, include house robberies.

Reginald Tsakane Machava was on May 25 sentenced to an effective 27 years behind bars by the court after he was found guilty on all five charges levelled against him.

According to the Ivory Park SAPS communications officer, Captain Bernard Matimulane, he was convicted of house robbery, house break-in, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and attempted murder.

“All of these crimes had taken place in Ivory Park, shortly before he was arrested in 2016,” said Matimulane.

Speaking on behalf of his management and all of his colleagues, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, the station commander, said: “Considering the trauma caused to the victim, Machava deserves all the years handed to him by the court.”

He further said the sentence should serve as a warning to other people involved in criminal activity that our detectives, regardless of their ranks, are a devoted bunch and do not rest until all angles and leads have been explored.
