Ward 7’s expo hailed as being most informative
He said given the positive response, the ward would organise another career expo
Young people came out in their numbers in dire need of information presented at Ward 7’s career and business expo.
Sibusiso Banda said that on May 25, over 592 young people seeking employment attended and that the number included those looking for bursaries and internships.
Councillor Thabang Jiyane welcomed the young people and Peter Ndaba motivated the jobseekers.
“Ruth Mphahlele from the department of social development gave a speech and Mthobeli Mdoda from NYDA addressed the attendees.
After the speakers had spoken, we declared the exhibition open and everybody went to the exhibition tables to get information about opportunities,” said Banda.
He said that although they had stakeholders who couldn’t come because of unforeseen circumstances, Gauteng Enterprise Propeller, Longrich Global, iCollege, Mzansi Poetry Academy, Boston College, MSC Business College and NYDA honoured the invitation.
“NYDA has promised to give training to participants in the field of marketing, financial management, sales management and business administration. Gauteng Enterprise Propeller offered to assist five young people in June as part of the celebration of Youth Month.
“Mzansi Poetry will train 50 young people in the field of the arts while Gauteng Enterprise Propeller will adopt one school in Ward 7 to train Grade grade 12 learners in the field of business administration,” Banda explained.
He said given the positive response, the ward would organise another career expo in partnership with the department of labour.
Unemployed youth Mphoentle Mokoena (25) said she attended the event hoping to find opportunities.
“I want a job or learnership. Such expos are very important because there are many unemployed graduates. Maybe this can help them,” said Mphoentle.
For more information on the upcoming event, please visit the office of councillor Thabang Jiyane in Room 5 at the Tembisa municipality or SMS or whatsapp the number 083 361 9306.
Banda said as part of building a caring society, NYDA donated paint and assisted in painting rooms at Ntataise Pre-school and Crèche in Leboeng Section.
The owner, Sophie Laka, said she is very happy with what the NYDA has done for her.
“They have painted two rooms in the crèche. Thank you very much for what you have done – I wasn’t expecting this. They just surprised me,” said Laka.
