Tembisa taxi association donates to needy learners

The association has started a school uniform drive this year

Members from the Tembisa Local Taxi Association (TELTA) are paving the way for the needy learners around primary schools in Tembisa when they donated pairs of shoes and jerseys.

The association has started a school uniform drive this year during the month of May visiting several schools around the township to hand out the school shoes and jerseys to ten needy learners each per school.

The primary schools benefited from the school uniform drive are OR Tambo, Marhulana, Thuthuka, Moduopo Primary Schools and Thembi-Nkosi LSEN (Learners with Special Education Needs) School.

According to the association’s spokesperson Peter Ntshoane, they’ve started the school uniform drive to plough back to the community in a manner to show their generosity to the young ones.

“Through this initiative, we are hoping to win our children back into schools because it is where they belong. Most young people in the township are roaming around the street and ended up being tempted to the addiction of drugs and alcohol. Our aim is to change the township for the better by empowering both parents and children coming from disadvantaged families to not give up on life regardless of the circumstance,” said Ntshoane.

TELTA officials joined by Thuthuka Primary School staff members and the benefited learners carrying the donated items.

Ntshoane added the association is not only about business but they care and support the very same people that are supporting their business.

“We’ve realised if we can add a little dose of kindness, we can make it easier for them to get to school and concentrate on education. We are hoping to have donated to all the primary schools in the township before the year-end,” he added.

Ntshoane said they’ve adopted Thembi-Nkosi LSEN School.

“We were approached by the school requesting a food parcel donation. So, we agreed to help where we can on a monthly basis,” said Ntshoane.
