EMPD puts brakes on transgressors ahead of the public holiday

Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) came down like a ton of bricks on drunken drivers and speedsters taking chances in Olifantsfontein, Kempton Park and Brakpan areas from September 22 to 24.

According to the EMPD media liaison officer, Kobeli Mokheseng, more than 40 various traffic fines, including driving without a driver’s licence, registration and licensing with moving violations, were issued in Brakpan area.

“Nine drivers were arrested on Main, Flaming and Kleinfontein roads between 2pm and midnight following roving roadblocks for driving while under the influence of alcohol, before they were escorted to the Brakpan Police Station.

“Six motorists driving way over speed limits (between 117 and 139km/h) were stopped on the R23 by Rangeview in Brakpan, which is a 80km/h zone),” said Mokheseng.He added on the R21 freeway at Olifantsfontein in Tembisa (a 120km/h zone), seven drivers were doing between 163 and 180km/h where on the R21 freeway at Pomona (a 120km/h zone) they were cornered clocking between 163 and 208km/h before they were taken to the Brakpan, Olifantsfontein and Kempton Park SAPS for reckless and negligent driving. Even though other lawbreakers were out on warnings, some had to part with R1 000 for bail,” said Mokheseng.

All apprehended suspects are expected to appear in the Brakpan, Tembisa (Steve Tshwete) and Kempton Park Magistrate’s Courts.
