Tembisa South SAPS and community members celebrate Heritage Day
Challenging police, especially on gender-based violence, were discussed.
On September 26, Tembisa South SAPS members, CPF and members of the community celebrated their Heritage Day at the station’s premises in order to embrace diversity.
Tembisa South SAPS communications officer, Captain Neldah Sekgobela, says cultural issues that are challenging police, especially on gender-based violence, were discussed.
“Some of them include abusive relationships whereby the victims are unable to come forward and report them to the police due to their tolerance based on cultural beliefs and while others emanated from their religious factors.
“Despite all the discussions, the community was encouraged by the police to come forward and report gender-based violence issues since the abusers need to be disciplined and face the full might of the law,” said Sekgobela.
She said different cultural acts from Tembisa cultural groups presented performances like Maskandi, led by the Mfanelo “Dzanibe” Mnguni, Tsonga dance by Mama E, Zulu dance by Tembisa legends and other community members visited the station to celebrate the day with police.
