Removal of illegal connections in Tembisa continues
Two men arrested for collecting 'connection fees'
The City of Ekurhuleni once gain conducted a special operation in Tembisa on Thursday, October4 between 4am and 10am targeting illegal electrical connections.
Together with energy department personnel, the EMPD removed hundreds of meters long precariously connected cables and plucked out illegally installed distribution boxes at Ehlanzeni section in Tembisa, said Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, spokesperson for the metro police.
Two male suspects purported to be collecting “connection fees” from illegal consumers of the stolen electricity were arrested.
The arrested pair, in their forties, were detained at Tembisa North Police Station and will face charges of damaging the infrastructure and theft of the city’s electricity in Tembisa Magistrate’s Court.
