WATCH: Norkem Park SAPS is station of the year
The best of the best were honoured for their hard work and dedication to the SAPS.
The best police officers in the northern cluster were honoured at the annual excellence awards on September 28.
The pouring rain outside could not put a damper on the evening’s festivities.
Inside, not a uniform was in sight. The men and women of the police traded their usual blue and gold attires for dapper suits and beautiful evening gowns.
“You fight crime, and maybe it feels like no one is watching you,” Rev Samuel Mabelebele told the guests. “Tonight, you are gathered because someone was watching you.”
The award for the best police station in Ekurhuleni went to Norkem Park Police Station. The award was accepted by acting station commander Lt Col Petrus Toute.
Sebenza Community Policing Forum members were ecstatic to be awarded the CPF of the Year award.
Kempton Park’s Const Stephens Tlomatsane and Const Caiphus Maphoko were named the best visible policing team in the cluster, while the Ekurhuleni Northern Trio Tracing Team was awarded Detective Team of the Year.
Police members don’t only fight crime but also excel on the sports fields. Sportswoman of the Year was awarded to Ivory Park’s Sgt Cebee Makaleng. Sportsman of the Year went to Const Muneiwa Musandiwa from Edenvale.
The Tembisa station can be proud of Lt Col Mmapudi Mabule, who is the best of the best. She was awarded Woman of the Year, while Man of the Year went to the Ekurhuleni North Cluster’s Jan Sefoloshe.
Members with more than 30 years service were also honoured with medals. Among them was Kempton Park SAPS’ very own Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for the station.
“If you don’t give up on life there will always be recognition,” Mabelebele concluded the evening. “And don’t forget to look after the young ones at your stations. The future of the police is in your hands.”
