WATCH: Angry commuters torch train in Germiston following delays due to fatal accident
Trains are currently not operating in Germiston but shuttle and bus services are running
Two train carriages were set alight at Germiston Railway Station on Tuesday morning.
Angry commuters apparently torched the carriages in frustration over being late for work for a second day running after scheduled trains experienced delays on Tuesday morning.
The delay on Tuesday morning was caused by an early morning commuter fatality at Denver Railway Station. The man was run over by a train while crossing the railway tracks between platforms.

According to William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS), firefighters from Germiston and Boksburg central fire stations battled the blaze from 9.30am.
“On arrival, two carriages, one being the central engine cart of the train, were found burning wildly. The train was at the platform and there wasn’t any commuters on the train,” he said.
Active fire-fighting was initiated after the power supply was cut off for safety reasons. Water supply was connected from a hydrant within the station in one of the platforms. No casualties were recorded on scene because of the blaze.
Trains are currently not operating in Germiston but shuttle and bus services are running around the precinct so commuters can be able to complete their journeys.
