ALERT: Hijacking simulation taking place near OR Tambo Airport
All services are responding to the scene with lights and sirens on
A crime scene simulation, involving the firing of blanks, is taking place on Jones Road near Emperors Palace this evening (Thursday), starting at 6pm.
The main objective of the planned simulation exercise is to test and demonstrate Gauteng province’s state of readiness in implementing the Road Incident Management System (RIMS) as stipulated in the procedure manual of the RIMS National Framework, said William Ntladi, spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni’s Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS).
The exercise, simulating a hijacking/robbery, will take place next to Jan Smuts Office Park on Jones Road.
“Members of the public are alerted that there will be blank shooting by participating police members to make the simulation as close to a real life situation as possible. We apologise in advance to all nearby businesses and road users for any convenience caused during the simulation exercise,” Ntladi added.
All emergency services responding to incidents on the road network – the police, Gauteng Provincial Traffic Department, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, Gauteng EMS and Gauteng Forensic Pathology Services – partnering with SANRAL, will undertake the simulation.
“A simulation exercise is one of the tools to evaluate ourselves and identify training gaps and provide intervention measures,” said Ntladi.
Police, traffic officials, including emergency services, will respond to the scene with their emergency lights (blue and red) and sirens on.
