WATCH: Truck driver found looking for his phone after Atlas Road rollover
The truck, carrying grain, blocked the whole road
Emergency services responded to a truck accident on the Atlas Road off-ramp on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Morné le Grange, general manager of Alpha Security, he received a call at around 4pm that a truck carrying bags of grain had tipped over.
Apparently the driver of the articulated truck lost control of the vehicle on the bend.
He tended to the scene with paramedic Brittany de Wit, where they found the driver, a Zimbabwean national, inside the cab of the truck, looking for his cellphone.
“We checked for injuries but saw none,” Le Grange told Express. “He just had a few scratches and bruises here and there.”
Footage taken at the scene shows the truck, on its side, stretched across the entire road. Kilograms of grain lay next to the shattered front window.
Express was unable to enter the scene at around 5pm, as the off-ramp had been cordoned off. According to Le Grange, the fire brigade, EMPD and OR Tambo SAPS members were on scene.
By 6.30pm the truck had been lifted back onto its wheels but the road remained closed.
