WATCH: Birch Acres Primary School parents run for fun

The day was all about building relationships and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

On Saturday morning it was parents and not learners seen on the school grounds of Birch Acres Primary School.

Other community members not affiliated with the school also joined in the fun. Together, they participated in either a 4km fun walk or 8km fun run hosted by Birch Acres Primary, to encourage parent involvement at the school.

Learners didn’t get to sleep late either, as a few 2019 prefects were seen working at water stations along the route.

“We wanted to bring everyone together and give the parents an opportunity to be part of the school,” said school principal Neels Bothma, who participated in the 4km category.

According to him, funds raised on the day will go towards a charity fund at the school for learners in need.

Bothma hopes the event will grow in future.

“It is the first time that we’ve done something like this and we’ll carry on in future.”

Parent and organiser of the event Tracy-Ann Chabeli was happy with how the event turned out.

“It’s been a long road but everything came together,” she said.

“This event is not only important for the school and parents to build a relationship but also to encourage healthy living.”
