WATCH: Fire engulfs three transformers in Kempton CBD
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Three electrical transformers caught fire in Kempton Park CBD on Wednesday morning shortly after 8am.
William Ntladi, spokesperson for Ekurhuleni emergency services, said a firefighting team from Kempton Park Fire Station responded to the massive transformer fire on Langenhoven Street close to Albatross Street.
On arrival, it was found that three electrical transformers were well alight inside the premises.
“Defensive firefighting was put in place. All exposed structures nearby were protected without putting water directly onto the blaze for safety reasons. The energy department was requested to the scene to isolate the power supply before offensive firefighting could resume,” Ntladi said.
After the safety call was made by electricians, offensive fire suppression was initiated. Backup crews from Primrose and Boksburg also arrived with two extra fire engines.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
