The first day of Grade One is filled with a lot of emotions for the learners, teachers, parents and everyone involved.
Excitement seemed to be the order of the day at Laerskool Jeugpark Primary.
Teachers, learners and parents were seen walking up and down the corridors to ensure everyone is where they are supposed to be and everything is in order.
“The preparations and what we have control over is sorted and everything is running smoothly,” said the school’s principal, Willem van der Vyver.
“There are always a few challenges, but nothing that we couldn’t handle and sort out. We always use strategic planning in December which helps and ensures everything runs smoothly on the first day.
Van Der Vyver also said proper working systems and ensuring all the staff know where to send parents with different enquiries and how the system works is another way to make certain day one goes well.

The principal also told Express they have 206 Grade One learners enrolled for the 2019 academic year.
“The number is six more than last year, but we will manage and we have a few projects lined up for the year that we are excited about. We also want to do upgrades at the school again to ensure we give the best to our learners,” concluded van der Vyver.
The Grade One learners were filled with excitement with most of them saying they can’t wait to start their work in the big school. It was rather comforting to see children being excited about education at foundation phase.
