An Esselen Park man wanted for murder handed himself over to police on Tuesday last week, nearly a month after he allegedly shot his victim six times on December 10.
He also led police to the alleged murder weapon.
According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, the 40-year-old suspect had an argument with his RDP housing neighbour on the corner of 40th and 45th streets.
The victim was declared dead on the scene by paramedics and a warrant for the suspect’s arrest was issued by Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court the following day.
In the days following the crime, Molokomme told Express the suspect was nowhere to be found.
“Information suggested he might have been in Luyengweni in the Eastern Cape.”
However, the suspect handed himself over to detectives at Norkem Park SAPS.
“The suspect then took police to a Greenfield house to show them the firearm [used in the murder],” Molokomme added.
“It had live ammunition and the serial number was filed off.”
The suspect will face charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
