Esselen Park murder suspect hands himself over to police

After a month in which the Norkem Park SAPS searched for an alleged murderer, he came to them.

An Esselen Park man wanted for murder handed himself over to police on Tuesday, nearly a month after he allegedly shot his victim six times on December 10. He also led police to the alleged murder weapon.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for the Norkem Park SAPS, the 40-year-old suspect had an argument with his RDP housing neighbour on the corner of 40th and 45th streets.

“The suspect took out a firearm and shot a male victim six times,” Molokomme said.

The victim was declared dead on the scene by paramedics, and a warrant for the suspect’s arrest was issued by the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court the following day.

In the days following the crime, Molokomme told Express that the suspect was nowhere to be found.

“Information suggests that he may be in Luyengweni in the Eastern Cape.”

However, Tuesday the suspect handed himself over to the detectives of the Norkem Park SAPS.

“The suspect then took police to a Greenfield house to show them the alleged firearm [used in the murder],” Molokomme added.

“It had live ammunition and the serial number was filed off.”

The suspect will face charges of murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
