The 36-year-old man was finally arrested in Tembisa after first being spotted on the R21 north late Saturday evening.
According to acting spokesperson for the metro police, Kobeli Mokheseng, the man was charged at Olifantsfontein Police Station with failing to stop when instructed to do so by an officer, as well as reckless and negligent driving .
A blood sample was also taken.
Mokheseng said officers had to use force in order to corner the flying red VW Golf 6, as the driver seemed to be intoxicated. The first attempt to stop the GTI was on the R21 north at the Olifantsfontein turn-off.
The driver pretended to slow down before he took the off-ramp at high speed, disregarding red traffic lights and driving through stop signs.
