Young trio to open music academy in Birchleigh North
Professionals will teach the kids how to use the instruments
A trio of young men by the name of So Syndicate Concepts will open a music academy at the New Day Church in Birchleigh North on February 4.
The academy, situated at 34 Mooifontein Road opposite Norkem Park High School, will be known as Blue Notes Academy.
Thabo Rakomako (24), Tokoloho Monareng (32) and rapper Bigstar Johnson (28) have joined forces to establish the academy. The trio says they saw the need for the academy because there is a lot of musical talent in Kempton Park.
“We are looking for people between the ages of seven and 25 to join the academy,” said Monareng.
The teaching programme offered will include guitar, bass guitar, drums and piano/keyboard. This, says Monareng, will be the beginning phase, and more instruments will be introduced as the academy grows.
“The main reason for this academy is to keep children busy and off the streets and also for parents to understand their children are doing something positive for themselves. We want to guide them by teaching them morals and values,” continued Monareng.
“We have approached a couple of schools such as Norkem High and Birchleigh to present our work to them and the response has been good,” said Johnson.
“We have a small space at the moment at the New Day Church so we are looking to register a maximum of 50 children. The registration is based on a first come, first serve basis.
“Professionals will teach the kids how to use the instruments. The good thing about this academy is that I am in the music industry and can incorporate a lot of people from the industry,” said Johnson.
“We really want to show kids that they also have the ability to be just as professional, learning from professionals.
“It is not that these kids aren’t ambitious, it’s not that they don’t dream, they just don’t have the resources and we want to be that resource that can help them reach their dreams,” said Johnson.
Classes will be held from Mondays to Thursdays from 2.30pm until 7.30pm. The earlier sessions from 2.30pm to 4.30pm will be for the younger students, and the rest of the sessions until 7.30pm will be for the older ones who can travel by themselves.
