Benoni Flying Squad member retires

He thanked the police for giving him the opportunity to serve the community

Benoni Flying Squad (BFS) bid farewell to one of its long-serving members on January 20.

WO Shadrack Zikhayi Godi has retired after a 30-year career in the South African Police Service, of which he spent 20 years at BFS.

It was a happy moment when Capt Senooe Samson Mokoena handed Godi a 30-year service trophy.

His career started in August 1988 and he has served at BFS since 1999, doing service in the then famous highway patrol until it was dismantled in 2007.

He was then re-integrated into the flying squad.

Godi, a Daveyton resident, had survived three shooting incidents in which criminals attempted to take his life.

He thanked the police for giving him the opportunity to serve the community; criminals must know that as a civilian he would still be the eyes against crime.

He further thanked Brig Samuel Stanley Killian, his previous commander, for the lessons and guidance through the years.
