Mother and daughter held up in Birch Acres robbery

Valuable information from a neighbour led to the arrest of two suspects

Two alleged Birch Acres house robbers were arrested on Wednesday morning, thanks to a vigilant neighbour.

One suspect, however, is still at large.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, a resident on Kolobrie Avenue spotted a suspicious-looking white Toyota Quantum parked at their neighbour’s gate on Saturday.

“The person managed to write down the car’s registration number,” Molokomme told Express.

This would later prove to be valuable information, as it turned out the three occupants of the car entered the house at about 10.45am to commit a robbery. A woman and her daughter were inside the house at the time.

“The woman came across two suspects in the passage, who instructed her to go back to her room,” Molokomme said.

The victim did as she was told and only returned once she heard the house was quiet. She found that one TV and a cellphone were missing.

When news of the robbery came to light, the neighbour supplied police with the registration number.

The information led Const Paul Motadi and Const Percy Mthombeni to Rabie Ridge early Wednesday morning, where they found two of the suspects, aged 30 and 31, in possession of the stolen goods.

They were arrested for robbery and possession of stolen goods. Police are still searching for the third suspect.
