WATCH: Residents honour fallen police officer with procession

They drove off just as the sun set over the city that Khalushi served with honour and commitment for 11 years.

Monument Road saw a sombre sight on Tuesday evening, as Kempton Park security members, in at least 40 cars, held a memorial drive for fallen police officer Const Rudzani Khalushi (36).

“It is disturbing to stand in front of you, knowing that we have lost one of our members,” station commander of Kempton Park SAPS Brig Samuel Maredi told the crowd before their departure to the station.

“Today, we remember one of our fallen soldiers,” pastor Richard Nkosi from God with us Royal Assemblies prayed. “We remember all the good he did in his community, and for his family and friends. I pray that you will strengthen those who are weak.”

Following the prayer, police members and security members lay flowers in the station’s courtyard. Many officers saluted in memory of Khalushi.

“We must take hands to support each other,” organiser of the event and Moto-Track director Horace Pizer said. “We must stop these silly losses.”

Khalushi died on Sunday after being wounded during an armed robbery on West Street two days before.

A memorial service was held for the father of two young children at Maranatha Community Church on Thursday morning. Khalushi will be buried in Venda on Saturday.
