DJ Shimza puts a song in learners’ hearts

DJ Shimza is going strong on his charity drive.

Ashley Kholofelo Raphala, better known as DJ Shimza, visited Rabasotho Community Hall on January 22 to donate school shoes to schools and NGOs around Ekurhuleni.Several back-to-school charity drives took place around the same time last month, but many residents commended Shimza for consistently giving back to the community.

The well-known Tembisa-born DJ Shimza was deeply upset by the sad situation of schools in Tembisa, so he decided to help the community and give hope to schoolchildren.

“Ten years later we have grown from giving shoes to 150 children to donating three thousand shoes after partnering with brands like Toughees.

“I understand why the durability of school shoes is so important because we come from families that cannot afford to buy three pairs of shoes for the year,” DJ Shimza explained.

“I need to give quality shoes to my own children in Tembisa so that they can also have hope and be encouraged to go to school until December.

“I am urging each and every one of the learners to always remember where they come from,” said DJ Shimza.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi and DJ Shimza present the shoes to beneficiaries.

Gauteng education MEC Panyaza Lesufi applauded DJ Shimza for his good work in the Tembisa community.

“I want to thank you, Shimza. Your One Man Show on December 25 every year brings in thousands of rand to the ordinary people of Tembisa.

“Through your show there are other people who are surviving daily.

“You are the only person who brings the country to a standstill during your show,” Lesufi said.

Lesufi also spoke about the government bursary scheme for top learners in Gauteng, saying the programme has made great strides.

Gugu Shokwa from Batho Bohle charity said they have been beneficiaries of Shimza’s shoe drive for two years and they are grateful to him.

“Especially for us as homes, knowing it is not easy to get sponsorship such as Toughees.

“Shimza helped us a lot and we would like to thank him for that.

“May God bless him so much. We love you, Shimza,” said Shokwa.
