WATCH: Tembisan included in Guinness Book of Records for back flips

A student under Zama's training, Munashe Shivambu says he could not wait to be where Zama is today.

Tembisa world record holder Zama Mofokeng is featured in the 2019 Guinness Book of Records for the most one-handed back flips.

He set the record in the township in March 2017.

At the time he said he was making the attempt to pave way for township children to have the courage to pursue their dreams in gymnastics.

Zama is very excited to be included in the book but at the same time he is saddened as the City of Ekurhuleni for failed to recognise his achievement.

Despite the City’s lack of recognition to alternative sports, Zama said he would continue his fight to change the image of Tembisa through sport.

“I am now training young children, preparing Tembisa gymnasts to hold their own world records.

“Since the City of Ekurhuleni is failing to give the support needed, I appeal to the parents and all Tembisa residents to come on board to make their children’s dreams a possibility.

“I have 20 students who are training hard towards attempting their own world records,” said Zama.

His challenge is that there are no conducive facilities in Tembisa, so they have to train in Centurion.

A student under Zama’s training, Munashe Shivambu (18), said he could not wait to be where Zama is today.

“I want to be the greatest and beat Zama’s record. I have been doing the sport for two years now,” said Munashe.

The 18-year-old is excited when he talks about Zama’s record.

“This is inspirational and it gives young people hope that they can achieve what others think is impossible. Zama has inspired township children to do more, even though the government does not recognise his efforts.

“I want to say to Zama, continue your beautiful work,” Munashe added.
