Philly’s Games give back to schools
Organisation aims to improve education through sport
Philly’s Games have been entertaining Tembisa residents for the past 27 years with their popular festive soccer tournament.
The founder of the tournament, Finny ‘Philly’ Mathebula, said the Philly’s Games family donated 10 tablets to Tembisa High School’s Top 10 learners on February 1.
Operations manager at the Philly’s Games organisation, Banele Bhengu, said on the day they also donated more tablets to Welamlambo Primary School.
“These tablets were donated with the aim of improving educational programmes at the schools and allowing teachers to further educate the learners through more research.
“This will develop the learner’s understanding and, in turn, it will benefit the learners greatly as we believe that if we arm the teachers with technology to do research, they will be able to teach learners on a broader level,” said Bhengu.
He said Philly’s Games’ mandate of improving education through sports was achieved.
“This year we also donated sanitary pads and lotions to the learners at Tembisa High and Welamlambo Primary.
“This was to ensure that primary basics for female learners were met and they do not have to suffer nor be ashamed to come to school because of a lack of basic necessities like sanitary pads.
“It is Philly’s Games’ aim and vision to take care of the community that supports our soccer tournaments and we will always work hard to cultivate and uplift our communities,” Bhengu added.
He said the Philly’s Games would like to thank all sponsors involved in the drive.
“Thank you to Zama Mchunu from Zinto Marketing Group for making the donation of the sanitary pads to Philly’s Games.
“It made it possible for us to touch lives and uplift our sisters.
“Thank you to the community of Tembisa for standing behind the Philly’s Games brand at all times and many thanks to the production team that makes it all possible,” Bhengu said.
