Kempton SAPS conducts surprise search at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High
The officers were divided into groups and targeted different classes searching for firearms, substances and any other type of weapon.
Kempton Park SAPS, with the help of the metro police, held a search operation at Sir Pierre Van Ryneveld High School on Tuesday.
The search was held during the first period.
The officers were divided into groups and targeted different classes, searching for firearms, substances and any other type of weapon.
The female officers searched the girls and their bags in the classrooms while the boys and their bags were searched outside the classrooms. During the search, a small plastic bag of dagga, Rizla rolling papers and matchboxes were found in one of the learners’ bags.
The learner was asked to go with the police, who took him to the school’s office.

“The learner has been handed over to the principal for disciplinary measures,” said Const Dipuo Ditshego, deputy spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS.
Capt Shadrack Magcuntsu, who adopted the school last year during the launch of Adopt-A-Cop, said they would book the items found at the police station.
“We will return to the school at a later stage to see how best to deal with the situation. The parents will be involved in this matter,” said Magcuntsu.
Margaret Wrigley, the school’s principal, agreed with Magcuntsu that although the learner is a first-time offender, it would not be left unattended.
“We will take the matter further and investigate. We have disciplinary measures in place and we will ensure we get to the bottom of this,” said Wrigley.
Magcuntsu told Express this was the first of many random searches to come.
