Metro police clear gambling den at intersection
Residents around the location are urged to report any form of criminality taking place.
An intersection in Norkem Park, which was turning into a gambling den and drinking place, was cleared by the metro police on Wednesday last week.
Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago, metro police spokesperson, said they received several complaints from residents regarding problems at the intersection of Pongola River and Mooirivier drives, bordering Norkem Park and Birch Acres.
“Following days of monitoring the location, the outcome was a bleak picture of the place turned into a gambling den, drinking place and jobseekers attending to the calls of nature indiscriminately all over the place.

“Not only jobseekers on foot have invaded the location. Trucks and sedans also park there touting services of rubble removal or making deliveries. As a result of the unacceptable situation, the EMPD decided to take action by removing the jobseekers and loiterers, as well as impounding the vehicles,” said Kgasago.
Periodic visits of the location will take place, spearheaded by Insp Konako and Mahlanya to ensure no offences mentioned take place again. The intention is to nip this behaviour in the bud as the situation could lead to criminals blending with genuine jobseekers to engage in nefarious deeds.
Residents around the location are urged to report any form of criminality taking place to enable speedy response by the metro police in order to bring wrongdoers to book.
