Tembisa business rewards matric learners and teachers

Teachers honoured by Ubukhosi Print and Engraving for their good work of the matric class of 2018.

While many people are still proud of Gauteng’s exceptional matric pass rate, small organisations also made an effort to honour learners who excelled.

Ubukhosi Print and Engraving initiated an annual event called Tembisa Matric Awards and its first edition was organised for the matric class of 2018.

Prince Mkhize, founder of Ubukhosi Print and Engraving, said he thought of the idea for about four years.

“Some of these children lose hope in matric and some give up due to a lack of support and appreciation.

“With this event, we give them hope and donate some stationery for their tertiary education.

“Mainly we give them trophies for exceptional performance. The first and the second top learner got prize money.

“All of this is to acknowledge their hard work,” said Mkhize.

He said even teachers were honoured for their hard work in bringing the best out of township schools.

Mkhize said they want to encourage the class of 2019 to work hard and be able to also shine in the Tembisa Matric Awards 2019.

We had stakeholders like Fratelli Lifestyle, Housing Africa Initiative, Pick n Pay Summore Market and Voice of Tembisa FM,” said Mkhize.

He said the event was a success and he felt great about the support they received from schools and the municipality of Ekurhuleni.
