“[The investigators] were following a suspicious-looking white Toyota Etios with five occupants around the R24 and Barbara Road. They said the suspects were travelling on Zuurfontein Road towards Tembisa,” said Giblins.

The flying squad was able to catch up with the suspects on Allandale Road in Chloorkop. There, all five occupants were arrested after police discovered two 9mm pistols and three live rounds of ammunition hidden in the car’s dashboard.

“The serial numbers [of the weapons] were filed off,” Giblin said.

The remaining three suspects, believed to be part of the gang, were arrested in the same vicinity in a silver Toyota Etios.

According to Capt Lesibana Molokomme, spokesperson for Norkem Park SAPS, all eight suspects are between the ages of 29 and 40.

“They were arrested and detained at Norkem Park SAPS for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”
