Taxi association to seek legal advice in Modderfontein Road route dispute
Drivers from Tembisa and Alexandra Taxi Association (TATA ) barricaded a section of the P91 on February 25

Lethabong Taxi Association (LTA) plans to seek advice from lawyers to contest a resolution that was given by the Department of Transport on a taxi route dispute.
Drivers from Tembisa and Alexandra Taxi Association (TATA ) barricaded a section of the P91 (Modderfontein Road) on February 25 during morning peak traffic.
TATA member Timothy Madima accused LTA members of harassing TATA drivers and commuters on this road.
“Cases have been opened but no action has been taken. Taxi drivers are fed up,” said Madima.
They hoped that the road closure would get them the attention they needed from authorities.
Chairperson of LTA, Uelaphi Mtshali, said the challenge LTA has, is that they have taxi ranks in the area that are not being utitlised to capacity. “We do not support violence,” Mtshali said.
A meeting was scheduled on the same morning at Sebenza Police Station between representatives from LTA and TATA to resolve the dispute.
Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso, coordinator of the taxi forum at Sebenza Police Station confirmed a decision had been reached.
“The Department of Transport ruled for LTA to contest the decision and apply for the P91 route which is currently registered with TATA.”
