Tembisa councillor has died at the weekend

A memorial service will be held on March 6 at 2pm at Sam Hlalele Hall in Tembisa.

A DA councillor in Tembisa, Clr Debeila Maserishane, has died at the weekend.

Clr Philip de Lange, the DA leader in Ekurhuleni, said Maserishane was a true community activist, dedicating his life to helping others.

“He joined the DA in 2010 and began working in Tembisa. He changed many lives in the area, always willing to go above and beyond the call of duty to assist wherever possible.

“Sworn in as a councillor in 2016 in the City of Ekurhuleni, his endless smile and loving personality will be missed by the DA and the community. He was loved by the community of Tembisa and they mourn his passing with us,” De Lange said.

Sphelele Nxele, spokesperson for the office of the speaker, said Maserishane was a true community activist. He was born in 1966 in Limpopo and joined the Democratic Alliance in 2010. He served on various structures.

“He was focused on the well-being of the community, and more especially the community from which he came from in Tembisa. The love he got from his community in Tembisa was an affirmation of the dedication he showed to his community work.

During an extraordinary council sitting in Germiston it was approved to give him a civic funeral, in accordance with Ekurhuleni Council’s Protocol Policy.

The Speaker of Council, Alderman Patricia Kumalo, expressed her condolences to the family of the late Maserishane and encouraged the community, as well as his colleagues, to show the bereaved family comfort and support during this trying time.

A memorial service will be held on March 6 at 2pm at Sam Hlalele Hall in Tembisa.
