Empowerment initiative for men to be hosted in April
Who and what is a man initiative to be launched in Tembisa.
Voice of Triumph will host an event on April 13 at Tembisa Community Hall to launch one of its initiatives named ‘Who and what is a Man’.
The guest speakers will include local leaders from churches, the taxi industry and local government leaders.
The event will kick-start at 11am in the morning till late afternoon. Entrance is free to all community members.
Siphiwe Tsheu, the spokesperson for Voice of Triumph, said the name ‘Voice of triumph’ was inspired by a message of Rev Dr Chris Oyakhilome in 2015. In this message, Oyakhilome defined triumph as a great or important victory, notable success or achievement. Triumph also means to prevail.
“As our slogan vividly say, ‘giving every voice an opportunity to triumph’. We have purposed it in us to see to it that every voice we come across gets the opportunity to sing songs of victory, particularly those in our communities and beyond whose voices are not heard or responded to.
“‘Who and what is a Man’ will give an opportunity for men to understand how a man should behave in society. Its aim is the change the stereotypes of men’s work around the house. Men need to understand that dishes, laundry, house cleaning and cooking are responsibilities of those who require them, not only women,” said Tsheu.
“We hope to empower young men to change their perception of how a man should deal with issues like emotional abuse and physical abuse, resulting in using drugs as a solution of stress relieving, let alone the bottle.
“We want to let men know that it is okay to cry, remind a man that a man should learn to be the revenue generating, otherwise he might not just lose his power of choice but his dignity and self-worth too in the long run,” explained Tsheu.
Tsheu said Voice of Triumph is an umbrella of initiatives namely one is Music Is Live, ICT, Me and My Healthy Life. Music Is Live offers lessons in guitar music, bass, keyboard/piano to name a few. ICT offers Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, Using the Internet. Me And My Healthy Life teaches the youth about hygiene, preparing healthy meals, how to buy the right foods and the importance of exercising.
