WATCH: ‘When something like this happens, even the strongest break’

Slain security officer honoured at spot of deadly attack

Motorists along the R21 north near Griffiths Road were met with a sombre sight on Thursday morning as friends, family and security companies honoured slain security officer Francois Swart (22).

Two lanes of the highway were temporarily closed at 11am to allow those mourning his death to place flowers at the spot where Swart and his colleague were shot in an attempted armed robbery on Tuesday morning.

Swart was declared brain dead at Life The Glynnwood Hospital in Benoni on Tuesday evening and died the next morning.

Now, two crosses honour his memory in the spot where he was so brutally attacked. Family, friends and fellow security officers had little to say as they placed flowers at the crosses; only tears.

“The guys are rattled,” Gerald Groenewald from Sec Pros Security told Express on Wednesday evening. “When something like this happens even the strongest break.”

Swart was not only a dedicated security officer but also a talented strongman and beloved fiancé. His colleague remains in hospital in a critical condition while the suspects are still at large.
