Watch: Biker critical after fatal pedestrian accident on Great North
A second person was hit in a different accident on the same road shortly after.
A case of culpable homicide is under investigation after a pedestrian died on Great North Road on March 16.
The unknown man was hit by a motorcycle around 6.40pm, close to the corner of Elgin Road. He died on the scene.
Capt Jethro Mtshali, spokesperson for Kempton Park SAPS, told Express on Wednesday the biker remains in hospital with critical injuries.
This accident was not the only one om Great North Road that evening, as a woman was hit by a vehicle moments after medical personnel treated the pedestrian and biker.
“While dealing with the scene, a crowd from a nearby informal settlement started to gather on North Rand Road,” Gerald Groenewald from Sec Pros Security said. “A another pedestrian, a woman, was hit by a vehicle.”
Groenewald said the woman sustained moderate injuries and was taken to hospital by Gau-Med.
Local police, the metro police, AfriForum and crime prevention forum members were called to the scene to control the growing crowd. The scene was cleared within two hours.
Mtshali said the deceased man had not been identified.
“We appeal to anyone who thinks the victim might be related to them to contact us,” he said.
The contact person for this particular case is Det W/O Khomotso Dinyane on 011 393 8600.
