Teenage Etiquette empowers young girls
Girls from church organisation enjoy a day out at its second annual event.
Teenage Etiquette, a non-profit organisation, held its second annual celebration at the Birchleigh swimming pool grounds on March 9.
The organisation was founded by Zanele Ngobeni in 2018 under the auspices of Assemblies of God Fellowship Church in Ivory Park.
The organisation aims to encourage young girls to live within the parameters of Christianity and according to their motto #GirlsWithPurpose.
About 30 girls attended the morning event.
The organisation’s vice-chairperson Penny Khoza conducted the activities, while mentor Khensani Sibiya co-ordinated a listening skills session and a bucket list game. Each participant was given an opportunity to list what they would like see offered by the organisation. Visits to old age homes, zoos and play parks and donations to the needy were among the things mentioned by the girls.

They also enjoyed spending time in the pool and were treated to a hot dog and snack pack.
Ivory Park resident Ngobeni said the organisation provides mentorship programmes for young girls and has annual meetings and events for fellowship and empowerment.
“The church is a pillar of strength for Teenage Etiquette and offers support to its members whenever necessary,” said Ngobeni.
Thembi Ndlovu, a member of the group and Grade 11 learner at Ivory Park Secondary School, said through the organisation they learn to respect each other and their parents.
“The lessons that I learnt from Teenage Etiquette is that as young girls we are chosen by the grace of God to be part of this organisation and stay away from negative social influences,” Ndlovu said.

Khongelani Mbatha, the chairperson, said they aim to help young girls in every aspect of their lives, be it academics, emotional support or psychological support.
“We are not limited to Christians only, but everyone is welcome to join us. We strive to love, support, help and build sisterhood,” said Mbatha.
