Drunk driver crashes into fuel pump at Elgin Mall station

The spillage had been successfully cleaned and the filling station was open for business

A suspect was arrested at Elgin Mall in the early hours of Saturday after crashing into a fuel pump at a filling station and causing significant spillage.

Capt Lesibana Molokomme, the spokesperson for the Norkem Park police, confirmed on Monday that the suspect was under the influence of alcohol. “The suspect faces charges of negligent driving, damage to property and driving under the influence,” Molokomme told Express.

A statement by mall management on the day of the incident confirmed that the spillage had been successfully cleaned and the filling station was open for business.

“Thankfully, there has been no adverse environmental impact from the spillage and no trace of the hazard remains,” the statement read.

No one was harmed as a result of the incident.
