Glen Marais artist selected to exhibit her work at Mall of Africa
Glen Marais’ Antionette McMaster is one of 120 artists across Africa chosen to exhibit their artwork.
The creative work of Glen Marais visual artist, Antionette McMaster, is being exhibited at the Africa’s Art Collective Seasons Autumn Edition at Mall of Africa.
McMaster is one of 120 artists to have been chosen for the exhibition.
Mall of Africa, in partnership with Julie Miller Investment Art Institute, is hosting the exhibition from March 14 to 31.
McMaster told Express she enquired when she saw last year’s exhibition and decided to send through her portfolio when submissions opened in January.
“I was gobsmacked when I received an email a month later to inform me that I am among 120 artists from across Africa whose work has been accepted,” said McMaster.
“This is my passion and I felt honoured and special that my work was chosen.”

McMaster’s five pieces of artwork are among 500 others exhibited on the entire upper level of the mall. She has four paintings and one mixed media artwork exhibited at four different stations.
The local artists also said she was born with the talent and most of her work is self-taught.
“My dad also paints very well and I have always drawn pictures and was always attracted to art like the art books in the library,” said McMaster.
“I am an accountant but currently studying towards my honours degree in visual arts at UNISA. The plan is to one day exhibit internationally in big galleries like the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York.”
McMaster thanked AJ from Ajay’s Art who is her mentor and has helped her greatly with portraits since she started attending his classes.
“I recommend other artists to send their portfolios for this exhibition. It is a great experience.”
