Remembering Dermot Scully: long-time photographer and artist from Rhodesfield

He is survived by his son, daughter and granddaughter.

Micha Hannemann, manager: Visual Arts, City of Ekurhuleni curator and historian pays tribute to Dermot Scully (67) in today’s edition of Kempton Express.

The well-known Kempton Park photographer and artist died on March 19 as a result of kidney failure.

Scully, a long-time resident of Kempton Park, died at his home in Rhodesfield. He spent his early years in Mayfair and moved to Kempton Park in 1957, where he lived for 62 years.

He will be remembered for his genuine love of the people. He always made whomever he was conversing with to feel as if they were the most important person in the room, Hannemann wrote.

“His passing has left a huge void in so many lives that he had touched over the years. Not only in Kempton Park, but also in Tembisa, where he spent almost two decades, teaching both art and photography to students and the youth,” she said.

He is survived by his son, daughter and granddaughter.
