Rev A Mapheto Primary School learners get lunch boxes

The Serame Foundation is a non-profit company which was established to address the challenges of the poor and disadvantaged communities.

Learners at the Rev A Mapheto Primary School in Tswelopele Extension 5 received backpacks and lunch boxes from the Serame Foundation in February.

The foundation is a non-profit company which was established to address challenges facing poor and disadvantaged communities. The foundation does this through transforming, empowering and creating job opportunities for residents in the townships and informal settlements, the founder of the foundation, Sithembile Serame said.

“This is fostered by the creation of communication platforms such as master classes, workshops, seminars, round table dialogues, training, business market day, literature engagements, visual art projects and social forums.

“We strongly believe in assisting communities to correct social ills created by the previous regime. Most families are broken and some parents work long hours or are unemployed. Others come home on weekends, leaving children vulnerable and neglected,” she added.

Learners of Rev A Mapheto Primary School were motivated and encouraged by Sithembile Serame of the Serame Foundation.

Serame motivated and encouraged children, telling them about the importance of education. She urged them not to be afraid to dream big.

Poet Pamela Mavuso (19) recited two poems from her collection.

“We also had a chance to speak to teachers telling them that this country needs them. Teaching is a calling to help transform and build this country,” said Serame.

“We have promised the school that we will return to donate reading books in various languages to promote and encourage the reading culture in the school.”

Those interested in getting involved with the Serame Foundation can call 065 999 1366 or visit their Facebook page (Serame Foundation) or website (www.seramefoundation.org).
