Girls in Ivory Park take fate into their own hands
OpenedEyes Girls and Ladies helps girls in Tembisa and Ivory Park.
On March 23 young girls gathered at Ivory Park’s North Hall to share skills at the OpenedEyes Girls and Ladies event.
Co-founder of the OpenedEyes Girls and Ladies, Lindy Ngobe said the day’s theme was ‘The price of time’, also disclosing the organisation had been approached by one of South Africa’s banks with the offer to help girls with maths tuition.
“We have been approached by one of South Africa’s banks with the offer to assist the girls with maths classes,” Ngobe said.
However, the day’s theme will focus on the importance of time.
“We will be talking about the importance of time.
“Why one needs to make sure they respect the time.
“What do they do daily in their lives to change their life,” said Ngobe.

She said the event has been running for three years and has been inspired by the book she published under the same name.
Ngobe said through their initiative they have helped young girls to publish their own books.
She said sponsorship for the event came from her parents and from participating girls who were already employed.
She said they have never struggled with money to run their projects.
Speaker Amanda Nomnqa shared her story on how she started running her business at the age of 21.
“I also shared google digital skills to help the team and everyone who attended the event to manage time and to build their brands.
“This will also help them to be disciplined online. The event was worthwhile and we need these events in our community because they build us,” Nomnqa said.
A bank employee, Happiness Legodi, delivered a speech titled ‘Time exposes your character’. The talk focused on how young girls should respond to life’s situations.
“The only way to realise you have grown is when you are exposed to challenges,” said Legodi.
She commended the organisers for the event.
