Ivory Park police respond to EFF’s demands
Ivory Park SAPS responds to the EFF's memorandum of demands.
Members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) of Ward 133, Lusaka branch, marched to the Ivory Park Police Station on February 16 to hand over a memorandum against crime.
The police were given seven days in which to respond to the points set down in the memorandum.
Colonel Sejo Goitsimang signed for receipt of the document.
The memorandum stated that there should be 24-hour police operations in the form of a mobile kiosk container in Swazi Inn, a raid on Mabena section, proper attention given to cases, shutting down of illegal taverns and, lastly, police visibility at crime hot spots.
SAPS communications officer Capt Matimulane Bernard said the areas that were identified as drug dens are continually being raided and monitored almost daily.
“Those who did not receive communication from investigating officers have been encouraged to bring their cases forward, to enable us to follow up properly and take steps where circumstances dictate,” said Matimulane.
“The noisy areas and taverns are constantly being visited and monitored. We have had meetings with some owners of these establishments to make them aware of what they are doing and the consequences if they continue to disturb peace in their neighbourhoods,” added Matimulane.
