UPDATE: Water restored to all suburbs

Kempton Express had not yet received any official comment from the metro, despite asking for it.

Monday 5.35pm

Water to all suburbs had been restored, Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, said in a statement issued late on Monday afternoon.

“The City of Ekurhuleni has worked overnight to restore water to parts of Kempton Park that experienced water interruptions over the weekend. The water interruptions were caused by a burst pipe on a main water supply pipe on Zuurfontein Road in Spartan,” he said.

It affected the following areas in Kempton Park:  Terenure, Birchleigh, Birch Acres, Esther Park, Croydon, Van Riebeeck Park and Norkem Park, said Gadebe.

Water tankers were deployed to the affected areas during the water supply interruption.

Original story:

The effects of a major water pipe burst on Zuurfontein Road over the weekend are still rippling through many suburbs.

The last update from the metro, just over two hours ago, stated that repairs on the leaking water pipeline on Zuurfontein Road in Spartan were complete. The burst pipe resulted in the metro closing the Isando reservoir.

According to ward councillor Jaco Terblanche, teams are removing the air pockets from the pipeline. The network should stabilise by 5pm.

On Sunday, the metro announced that unexpected challenges had delayed restoring water to several suburbs and a team was working around the clock. Various restoration dates given by the metro did not materialise.
