Land invaders set up home under dangerous high voltage cables

The matter has since been reported to the authorities

Land invaders have moved in under two 88kV power lines feeding into the Allandale substation.

Eskom warned people not to do so, as it is a very dangerous place to live.

“Eskom would like caution members of the public from erecting structures under power lines as they interfere with safety clearances and this may result in serious injuries or fatalities should the line snap due to unforeseen faults on the network, causes of nature or human interferences,” said Motlhabane Ramashi, senior manager, operations and maintenance.

Eskom confirmed the land invasions in Rabie Ridge that have been taking place since March 20.

The matter has since been reported to the authorities under the occupational health and safety act and electrical installation regulations, and they have been requested to halt the invasions.

Ramashi said the structures also obstruct entry into the substation in cases of maintenance and breakdowns that might need to be conducted. This will also have a negative impact on customers that are fed from these networks.
