#IMadeMyMark: Special votes have opened today, apply now
Why would I need a special vote?

Special votes in South Africa for the upcoming national elections on May 8 have opened today, April 4.
Applications for special votes will close on April 18 at midnight. No exceptions will be made, as the cut-off is mandated by law.
Registered voters can apply for a special vote on the IEC website. Special votes will be cast on May 6 and 7.
A special vote allows a registered voter, who cannot vote at their voting station on election day, to apply to vote on a predetermined day before election day.
Michael Waters MP, deputy chief whip of the DA in Parliament, said anyone – irrespective of political persuasion – that needs help to get a special vote, can contact their ward councillor in Kempton Park.
“If you are away on holiday or business, elderly, bed ridden, heavily pregnant or simply working on May 8, you can apply for a special vote. On the Monday or Tuesday you will then be entitled to go to your voting station where you are registered between 8am and 5pm, and cast your ballot. If you are unable to go your voting station, the IEC will come to your home in order for you to cast your vote,” Waters said.
