Green walk to hit Kempton’s streets on April 12

The walk is an education and awareness campaign that will be led by Buti Green, the national Green champion

The Green Development Foundation (GDF), a non-profit company, will join the Good Green Deeds National Clean-up Campaign on April 12, hosting a fun walk through the CBD of Kempton Park.

The event starts at 9am from 45 Long Street.

The residents and businesses of Kempton Park have been invited to be made aware of the importance of clean environment, and how they can take action against improper waste management practices.

The walk is an education and awareness campaign to be led by Buti Green, the national Green champion, singing his edutainment songs. Litter will also be picked up for later separation and recycling by enviroguards.

“The more people who join us, the more cleaning equipment (plastic bags, gloves, dust masks etc) we will need, so any sort of sponsorship will be greatly appreciated,” said Amo Mokoape, acting CEO of GDF.

The foundation has already taken responsibility by allocating 10 enviroguards onto the streets of Kempton Park to assist the municipality with waste picking and separation of waste at source for recycling. These guards work Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm.

Buti Green is the GDF mascot and national greening champion.

“But cleaning will be fruitless if we don’t educate and make the community at large aware, hence this fun walk,” said Mokoape.

The company promotes green economy and encourages community participation. It also create awareness around matters of sustainable environment.

This is done through powering impoverished communities through training, development and skills transfer. Green is the GDF mascot and national greening champion.

He acts as a mouthpiece for the green cause, speaking at primary school level and to corporations.

In light of the Good Green Deeds National Clean-up Campaign, GDF is rallying up businesses, schools, NGOs and community members with the purpose of creating awareness in the community of Ekurhuleni about the importance of a clean environment .
