New food and music event launched at Moses Molelekwa Art Centre
Tja Setjo buffet and live music event celebrates African culture.
On April 12 young people in Tembisa launched their first bimonthly Tja Setjo buffet and live music event at Moses Molelekwa Art Centre.
Co-founder Tesh Mashedi said the event is an initiative of Project Xero 8, which sought to preserve South African food by observing heritage and promoting cohesion through traditional dishes and African soul music from enthusiastic, talented and rooted young artists.
At the event patrons indulged in an assortment of dishes from different African cultures.
“This concept emerged after seeing a gap in our community where Western cuisine is taking over and our heritage of rich African dishes is less celebrated.
“This negligence of African heritage becomes a norm for our young ones,” said Mashedi.

He said Project Xero 8 is an event and catering company owned by six energised and passionate individuals from Tembisa – Mashedi, Sonia Mohlala, Matome Maake, Portia Mashaba, Mzwakhe Mkhwanazi and Sbongile Nsi-bande.
“Our aim is to bring other traditional events to the surrounding communities so the youth can be reminded of our African roots and rich culture.
“Project Xero 8 is a new voice in the entertainment industry with members from different cultural backgrounds.
“Food expertise from different cultures gave us a full understanding as to why we should venture forward with this business model,” explained Mashedi.
“The founders are visionaries and the brains behind this new, innovative and groundbreaking business initiative,” said Mashedi.
