Police on high alert following protest action in Rabie Ridge
Land invaders in a clash with the community members.
The police are on full alert after community members in Rabie Ridge embarked on protest action complaining about poor housing service delivery and land invasion. This was after roads in the area, including Still Avenue and Dane and Moorderfointein roads, had been closed off by the protesting residents.
The community members expressed their grievances by barricading roads with stones. They burnt tyres to close off roads, an action that caused informal businesses and taxi operations to be adversely affected.
Rabie Ridge communication officer Capt Mofana Masela said the protest was about housing issues.
“The police are on alert. Anyone who has been injured as a result of police involvement or as a result of protest action should open a case.
“The number of people injured is still unknown. All roads between Still Avenue, Reitduiker, Dane And Modderfotein, are still closed. Motorists should drive with caution,” warned Masela.
The Tembisan tried to get a comment from the regional directorate and its deputy director of communications, Nthatisi Modingoane. At the time of publishing, there was still no response.
