Ivory Park’s Nomsa releases new single in the spirit of Easter

'My family and the church are my pillars of strength in everything I do, even in this music venture I am taking'

Nomsa Sibiya (32), a gospel artist from Ivory Park Extension 10, is launching her first gospel track single, titled Agasoze, for the Easter holidays on April 19.

Sibiya is a songwriter, composer-singer and choir conductor who writes music that speaks and educates the community at large about believing in God.

Born into a family of four children, she attended Nyiko Primary School and Tembisa High School. Her love for music began in church at a very young age. She used to go to church with her mother on Sundays and discovered her singing talents at Sunday school.

The up-and-coming artist was inspired by Lebo Sekgobela when she was younger and grew up listening to gospel and jazz music. In 2008 she started to lead the Assemblies of God Fellowship (AGF) church choir and is currently the church’s worship team choir conductor.

Sibiya said she was always itching to write music, but it was not until last year that it became clear to her that she had to begin her singing career.

“I worked with the Tembisa Gospel Choir, who have been appearing on One Gospel, a gospel music programme on DStv, and have also been a backup singer for Rhudzani, who also features on the DStv programme,” said Sibiya.

“My single is a gospel song. I need to bring about change in people’s lives. It’s more than a song, it is a ministry on its own. It is a ministry that has to touch everyone’s lives.”

“There is more to learn and more to do. I need to learn to love and respect the people I will be working with in the music industry because ushering His word needs to go along with a genuine love for people as well,” added Sibiya.

“I started conducting choir at an early age, but it has been a great experience working with young people. You learn a lot from one another.

“It has been easy conducting the choir because I was able to do music on a daily basis. I am looking forward to offering voice training in the future and start mentoring someone from the church choir.

“My family and the church are my pillars of strength in everything I do, even in this music venture I am taking.”

“For any bookings, contact me on 073 075 9356 or find me on Facebook at Nomsa.sibiya@gmail.com. My music will be found across online music stores, including Google Play and iTunes. People can expect an album next summer or during Easter next year,” said Sibiya.
