The Ikageng Career and business expo event will take place at the Moses Molelekwa Community Centre, Tembisa, from noon to 5pm on April 24.
The expo aims to instil the importance of career development and education among communities. Additionally, the event aims to support learners to understand themselves better and to have better career options. Also, it aims to encourage learners to consider post-graduation career plans as well as to appreciate the value of entrepreneurship.
The event will also focus on small, medium micro enterprises (SMMEs) business development and to establish networking opportunities among schools and local business. It also commits itself to provide an invaluable platform for small businesses to market their businesses and to nteract with established stakeholders.
Luthando Bapela, an official of the organisation, said the event hopes to empower the residents, and to help Grade 10 to Grade learners, to think about the possibility of following careers in business.
“It is vital to integrate structural platforms or programmes to what learners do at school if we are to sustain economic growth and to create jobs in our communities,” said Bapela.
“Our vision is to empower learners to discover and pursue a fulfilling career path so that they may make their own meaningful contributions to society,” added Bapela.
