Funds needed to buy house for unwanted babies in Kempton Park

Readers can lend a hand by attending a fund-raising event at God’s Way Ministries at 5 Rydel Road in Boksburg on May 4 at 2pm.

Life Link Pregnancy Crisis Centre in Kempton Park hopes to open a Jeremiah’s Hope Baby Safe, a safe alternative for women to leave their unwanted babies.

According to founder and centre director Sharon Rushton, the project fell through in 2016 when the property the crisis centre planned to buy became unavailable.

“We have been trying since to obtain a space from where we can run the project,” Rushton told Express.

“Now, we are embarking on a fund-raising drive to buy a house.”

Rushton said R600 000 has already been pledged to the organisation but they need the help of businesses and the community to raise the balance.

Readers can lend a hand by attending a fund-raising event at God’s Way Ministries at 5 Rydel Road in Boksburg on May 4 at 2pm. Tickets are R150 per person along with a toiletry item for a mother or baby.

“The fund-raising event promises to be filled with fun, lots of prizes, raffles, stalls, refreshments and information on the project,” Rushton added.
